NUPEMM is a research group based at the State University of Feira de Santana (Brazil). It focuses on
Mathematical Modelling in Mathematics Education, aiming to analyse the development of this learning
environment within school settings.
The group's research activities are organised around two aspects: the
classroom and professional development. In relation to the first aspect, the group's investigations centre
on the organization and execution of modelling activities in classrooms, documenting examples of
mathematical modelling in practice, examining how and when this process contributed effectively to
mathematics learning and reflecting on what might be changed in future applications. The second aspect
concentrates on researching the relationships that teachers establish with modelling in professional
development settings.
The research group is linked to the Departments of Exact Sciences at the State University of Feira de Santana
and the Graduate Studies Program in Teaching, Philosophy and History of Sciences at the Federal University of
Bahia and State University of Feira de Santana (PPGEFHC-UFBA/UEFS), State of Bahia, Brazil.
